Finally got my copy of "40 Days to Personal Revolution", and I really like it so far. I'm on Week 2. I have missed a few days, but only because I've been going to class. One of the aspects I particularly appreciate is that he's not overly...New Age-y. He says that a lot of the eastern teachings that Americans try to adopt don't make sense in this day and age--he really focuses on what is practical and accessible for people right now. That being said, though, he sets a high bar. Meditation twice a day (I'm only doing the morning so far), a yoga practice that gets longer each week of the practice (up to 30 minutes now in Week 2), and a consciousness about eating. I really like that he basically says "who am I to tell you how to eat? Here are some things you may want to keep in mind." Oh, and he has "excavation questions." I'm glad I remembered that--I should look at those.
I did Week One before I got the book, so I really only did the yoga practice. I'm now sort of off--I'm doing the Week One meditation. A very interesting thing happened, though, despite not having the book or consciously following his plan (other than the yoga.) Last week was full of realizing things about myself around boundaries--questioning my anxiety around Nora's sometimes too-fierce hugging and nuzzling, especially in public; identifying where some of my reluctance to address/over-sensitivity to other people's boundaries comes from; starting to think about being brave enough to risk connection, putting in abeyance the fear of rejection. I never really got the connection of yoga with the whole psyche; now I'm starting to. It's exciting.
